DO DEMONS REALLY EXIST?

Do demons exist? Good question. Do u remember that Jesus Himself spoke about them and even cast them out? So did all the prophets, disciples and apostles. Just as the Lord has angels to effect His will and purpose here on earth so the devil has demons and his whole hierarchy of forces of darkness to effect his own (see Ephesians 6).

Actually demons are nothing but the fallen and corrupted angels that were cast out of heaven with Lucifer by archangel Michael as a consequence of their collective rebellion against the Living God. The bible tells us that one third of the angels sided with Lucifer and were therefore cast out with him. They all lost their glorious places in heaven and were thrown down to earth where the devil now attempted and is still attempting to set up his own kingdom. The reason you cannot see demons is because, just like God’s angels, they are ministering spirits and they are therefore invisible. The good news is that they are firmly under our feet and the Lord has given us total power over them and the ability to crush them through prayer and fasting. We must not give them undue attention because they thrive on that too but we must not be ignorant of their devices. The most important thing to understand is that just like their prince the devil, they prefer people to believe that they don’t exist and in the alternative they crave worship.

Have you not heard of an entity called the Prince of Persia in the Book of Daniel in the bible that fought with the angel that God sent to Daniel from heaven and held it back for 21 days? That was a very powerful demon and it is what is known as a “principality” which is a territorial spirit that sits over a nation. Believe it or not each nation has one, including Nigeria. They are the highest ranking and most powerful demons in satan’s hierarchy and army and we must resist them with prayer. What about the man possessed with a legion of demons whom the Lord Himself had to deliver. Again there are millions of people that are obviously under demonic influence all over the world today and in world history (Adolf Hitler, Idi Amin, Osama Bin Ladin, Pol Pot and Genghis Khan are obvious examples) and that is why it is very important for us to pray for one another and particularly for our leaders in order to nullify such influences that seek to push them into doing the most hideous, barbaric and inexplicable things. The only thing that demons bow to, fear and respect is the name of Jesus but please make no mistake, they do exist, they do have power, they do influence, they do kill, they do steal and they do destroy. They actually enter people’s bodies, possess them and then cause them to commit atrocities.

The worst thing about it is that many misguided and unfortunate souls actually invoke them through pagan and ancient rituals, use them to achieve their evil purposes and actually fellowship with them and worship them. Such people end up being their slaves and always end up being utterly destroyed by them. Just look at how Voltaire, Aleister Crowley, Anton Lavey and so many others in that category ended. Again have you heard of a play called Dr. Faustus by Christopher Marlowe? Marlowe was a contemporary of William Shakespeare (some believe that they were one and the same person) and it is from that play that we get the word a “faustian” pact which means a pact with the devil. Dr. Faustus wrote a contract with the devil in his own blood and gave him his soul in return for all the knowledge in the world. He got all the knowledge he wanted but at the end of his life the devil sent a demon by the name of Mephistopheles to collect poor Faustus’ soul in return for the vast knowledge that he had given him.
Every faith on the planet recognises the existence of these evil personalities called demons and it is precisely because of their activities and the dangers that they present to mankind that we must pray hard and continue to invoke God’s Spirit, love and protection over ourselves, our loved ones and our communities every day. Thank God that Jesus “spoiled all the principalities and powers” for us and made a “public show” of them. Thank God that they are “under our feet” and that we are “joint heirs to the throne”. His word says “He has given us power to tread on scorpions and serpents and all the power of the enemy and none shall by any means hurt us.” So they cannot hurt us providing we pray. We just have to bind them every day and loose the power of God into our lives. Providing we do that we don’t have to dwell on them at all and there is absolutely nothing to fear. Shalom.
